Filler means non canon material that has no contribution to the story or main characters. As long as its canon, its not filler. You guys act as if our main cast[Goku,Vegeta,Bulma,Beerus, etc.] are just sitting around staring at paint dry when their not in a battle. Lol they have lives too outside of fighting, just because its not a huge battle, doesn’t mean its automatically filler. No series, especially Anime, can consist of ACTION only with no relaxed moments like this once in awhile. Also this serves as a placeholder episode for the manga writers so they can think of more material. Akira has a special surprise up his sleeve 🙂

I actually really enjoyed this episode. Tbh, it was better than the whole Future Trunks arc 🙂 No plotholes, no asspulls..

Actually. there was a plothole if you were paying attention. Gohan said medicine doesn’t work on those with Saiyan blood, but in Dragon Ball, Oolong gave sleeping pills to Goku and they worked. Also, when Goku was recovering in the hospital, the doctors used the famous needle on him and that also worked. Plothole right there.

And jeez, do you have to copy/paste this to EVERYONE who didn’t like this episode? They have an opinion. And while I did greatly enjoy this episode, and the ‘Ugh, this is filler garbage’ posts are annoying me, people are entitled to their opinions. No need to be a dick to them just because they disagree.

Is Zamasu really a villain though? I mean…he basically punished the future trunks timeline for having created a timbering. He even mentions that as one big reason he wanted to annihilate them. It was the will of the Gods and therefore … not a sin. (Like God destroying the world via Noah’s flood, violating thou shalt not kill, is not called a sin.)

Yeah, But it wasn’t he’s job to do so, The Gods of destruction are post to destroy planets and universes, Not only that but zamasu wanted to destroy Everything leaving nothing left in time or space.

Zamasu wanted to end humanity but not destroy anything. He even wept tears for the world and the evil of humanity. Zamasu wasn’t a god of destruction nor did he want to be one. That’s why he only aimed for human life and not just destroy the planet. At the end he decided that the best way to make his justice a reality was not to change the way of the universe but to become the universe itself. He became the multiverse and destroyed all life. Zeno came and destroyed the timeline (Zamasu).

When people say filler, they aren’t meaning noncanon, and you already know that they mean it is ‘pointless’ as in not contributing to the story or character development. There’s no better word for it then calling it ‘pointless’ or filler.

Jesus Christ. I’ve never seen them more selfish. All of them were just… my god. Every single one of them was consumed by greed, and this was literally right after Future Trunks left, a child who never, ever in his his life had the luxury of having dragon balls to wish his friends and family back, and now this entire episode was a bunch of selfish pricks asking Shenron for their wish. Go look for the dragon balls on your own time!

If the kid was only sick since that morning and the medicine hasn’t even had a day to kick in, I would not be very worried. Medicine ain’t magic, it takes a bit lol.

There’s your problem. Practically any time of medicine in Dragon Ball works almost instantly. And since Gohan was actually surprised it didn’t work right away, then surely that means he was told that it SHOULD act right away.

          • Blah Blah Blah..

The manga and anime are being done by separate people, both of whom are not Toriyama. The Anime is way ahead of the Manga. Nothing in the anime can be considered Filler as it does not follow the manga.

Just watch the god damn anime and if you don’t like it then don’t watch it, no one gives a shit, animation not up to your standards?, lets see what gem you produced jackass, go make your own anime with a bunch of metro looking lumberjacks playing grab ass, please show us how it’s really done whenever you find some time in between your trips to Starbucks.

While I also disagree with his statement since those people are definitely in the minority, I have no idea what you’re even talking about. He didn’t say HE hates Kai for removing filler. He said nostalgia fanboy hate it. Also not sure why you went on a hipster rant. You seem to be the triggered one.

It’s not about them having filler, it’s the way they’re handling filler episodes. Wasting half of 6+ episodes of Black Goku arc on Pilaf is one example. This filler episode (68) is a good use of filler. The earlier ones that wasted half or more of episodes panning the camera around mountains, showing flashbacks excessively, and having pilaf’s gang too often.
The magic water arc which apparently is considered filler is actually a really good arc IMO, and way better use of filler than the pilaf junk. It’s not that pilaf can’t be there at all, it’s just they focused a good portion of episodes, at least 6, where half or more of the episode was just pilaf and camera panning over a mountain.

Except the kind of material that went into DBZ filler only exist to FILL the time so that the manga source could get far enough ahead that there was actually main story stuff to animate. That’s why it was called filler.

This isn’t technically filler because this anime series doesn’t use the manga as a template. Both are running independently with the same loose outline from Toriyama and executing things their own way.

So what we have instead is just a silly main storyline break that serves no purpose but excess comic relief (IMO). When even the “serious” episodes are peppered all over the place with comic relief, we really don’t need a whole episode dedicated to it…

And like the people below say, LOTS of people had a problem with it in DBZ even though it had a legitimate reason for it.

      • Mofiz
        Reply

DBS DOES slow down often so the Manga can catch up, either with additional details or just straight up filler episodes, so it does have a purpose to be there.

Also the people complaining about everything are mostly nostalgia fanboys that don’t accept anything new or different, hence why most people here complaining are hyprocrits

        • Azrael87
          Reply

Why would it? It doesn’t depend on the manga and hits all the story beats BEFORE the manga. Are you just assuming that’s the case to justify it or have you seen it stated somewhere?

People complaining about everything are mostly being objective and not fanboys at all actually. People defending seem to be either current fanboys who think any DB is better than no DB, even if its mediocre to bad. OR they’re just easy to please, which is fine, good for them.

          • Mofiz

People complaining about Super being objective? You kidding? They rage about everything from filler episodes to power levels and how shit of a DB it is, despite this being the case since DB ever existed
If you watch DBS and expect something different from DB and DBZ, you are just being retarded. Imagine someone complaining about fanservice in an ecchi anime. You get what you were promised. And this is pretty much what DB always was

  • ThatGuy984

Bulma is severely retarded she should of let Goku have his wish first then waited for Beerus to leave..Shenron would of left and they wouldnt of caught Beerus’ attention in the first place because Goku would go to the Center of the earth after and everyone would be happy. But no she had to be greedy and impatient like everyone else…Im glad the crystal and her machine got destroyed..she deserved it and maybe also a bitch slap.

You are correct it’s not technically filler. But the rest of what you say not so much.

Yes, the characters have lives outside of fighting, but we don’t need to see every ridiculous moment of it if it doesn’t advance any kind of plot. This series has had PLENTY of relaxed moments even in the episodes with action. As someone else pointed out, half of entire episodes end up dedicated to child Pilaf’s crew. It’s silly.

Also, the anime doesn’t need to wait for the manga writers to think of more material because it isn’t running based off of the manga.

And even if it was silly, this episode was riddled with basic logic holes, some I mentioned above: a baby having a fever for less than a day isn’t unusual let alone an emergency, 18 could’ve literally just asked Krillin, Bulma is perfectly capable of building a machine that can go retrieve that stone for her even if she DIDN’T have a dozen people who could’ve gone and gotten it like Goku did. If everyone agreed Goku would get the first wish, why didn’t they just let him use it first and argue over the second one when it was actually time for it? Goku didn’t have to wait. There are still namekian dragonballs with 3 wishes. Even its one revive per wish, that’d take care of those on the Kai planet. Also, how did Roshi get there that fast? He can’t fly and his island is NOT that close.

We can use it how we want since it actually applies to a lot of episodes that are actually not contributing to the story or plot at all. This was a good filler episode actually, but Super has been really bad about pointless fillers so far. I know at least 6 episodes where I saw Pilaf doing the exact same thing for half an episode around the start of black goku arc, then we’d see Black for 2 seconds and be in the exact same place we were before.

This isn’t filler and just shove the manga v anime canon nonsense waaaaay on up there. This was the time turner solution which JK Rowling admits to being poorly handled yet explained away the “go back in time and reset” ex machina solution. This eliminated casual time travel which is kinda significant for any plot or arc. No time travel keeps it all linear; no do- over, no new time rings, just multiple universes; it’s shifting focus back to where it needs to be; everyone just needs to Lord Chill.

    It’s a silly episode so I shouldn’t even question this stuff but…

Wtf? Pan had a fever since THIS MORNING and that merits a wish from the dragon? It’s not even night time! It takes more than a day for medicine to work…what kinda peaceful baby raising have these guys gone through before now that they freak out over this?

18 could’ve literally just, I don’t know, communicated with her friggin husband? Again, doesn’t merit the use of a magical dragon that can only be summoned once a year.

Roshi, Oolong and the kids were obviously meant to be silly so they’re fine.

Bulma can design a time machine and a suit that allows surviving at the earht’s core, but not an automated machine to retrieve the stone for herself?

Goku finally stopped acting like an asshat in this series and it goes to waste. For shame.
